Before winter weather hits, City officials ask Lansing residents to review rules related to citizen responsibilities during storm situations.

Lansing sidewalk snow and ice removal policy: In general, residents have 24 hours after the end of the snow/ice event to clear the sidewalk immediately adjacent to the property. If the sidewalk has not been cleared within 48 hours after the storm (and after City staff verification,) residents will be made aware of the violation.

Parking restrictions during snow and ice events:  In general, residents are encouraged to avoid parking on the streets, and prohibited in doing so where “No Parking During Snow” signs are posted on Emergency Snow Routes. The City/Police Dept. has the authority to cite and/or tow vehicles along these routes.  Residents should follow these provisions to help ensure an effective response to winter weather by City staff and other citizens.
