LANSING AQUATIC CENTER OPENING UPDATE
Winter weather construction delays mean the new Aquatic Center will now officially open in mid-June, according to Lansing officials.
City Administrator Tim Vandall says contractors told him this week they could not make up the time lost because of several winter snow storms and prolonged periods of subfreezing temperatures. “It’s disappointing, but we hope to have a ribbon cutting and public open house on Wed., June 11. There won’t be any swimming, but our residents can get a good look at the facility,” said Vandall. “We expect to be fully open to the public for swimming and other water activities on June 13 or 14, barring any other weather-related setbacks.”
Contractors hope to have the facility’s fence installed no later than Sat., May 24. At that time, work can begin to fill the pool with water, which will need warming time before bathers can enjoy the facility’s activities.
The city of Lansing will modify seasonal pass costs for individuals and families due to the delayed opening. See the graphic for pricing information.
Please note: aquatic center information in the Lansing Connection related to an opening date and seasonal pass costs was submitted in late April due to deadlines and is outdated. Check the City website and social media for updates as they become available over the next month.
